With his strange abilities given by the Needle of Intelligence, he quickly rose to first place at the academy. No one else at the academy could keep up with his progress, and he also showed an outstanding talent in martial arts.

Dan Jimyeong: A master recognized both north and south of the Yellow River, he is the father of Dan Seonpung. With the intention to make his son smarter, after visiting Pyohaeng he buys the Needle of Intelligence from a hermit at a general store and gives it to him as a gift. He is a man who is faithful to his family and cares a lot for Dan Seonpung even though he had no skills before receiving the Needle of Intelligence.

Jung Jinbong: An excellent teacher at the academy who recognizes Dan Seonpung’s talent after he gains the Needle of Intelligence and takes him to the Sungyang Academy.

Lady Jabyeok: A princess rumored to be a noble and holy Taoist fairy, she owes her life to Dan Seonpung and makes a connection with him.

Synopsis

Dok Gocheong, the legendary hero who prevented the rise of the demon army, died at the age of 120. The servant cleaning his room discovered an object called the “Needle of Intelligence”, and sold it to the local general store. Ten year later, Dan Jimyeong, a master recognized by the Sanseo, purchased the “Needle of Intelligence” at a general store to gift it to his only son Dan Seonpung and make him smarter as he was entering into Honggyeong Academy at age 11.

After Dan Seonpung was accepted into Honggyeong Academy at age 11, he was unable to stand out among all of the talented individuals. However, when he fell asleep with the “Needle of Intelligence” gifted by his beloved father under his wooden pillow, he was able to study in a strange dream world, and not only did his learning improve but also his weak constitution. Time in the dream world flowed differently than in reality, and he was able to catch up with the Academy progress as well as move from 45^th to 1^st place in just a month. However, the effects of the Needle of Intelligence didn’t end there. In addition to improving his fragile constitution, he gained insight into the martial arts practice of cultivating one’s innate abilities. Then, while in deep enlightenment, Dan Seonpung falls asleep for three days. Then his father, who believes he was wrong in his greed to make his son smarter, stays by his side without eating or drinking to protect him. After he awakens, Seopung sees his father and tells him about the Needle of Intelligence. However, his father tells him that he also slept with the Needle under his pillow and nothing happened, meaning that connection to the Needle was exclusive to Seonpung.

After hearing the story, Dan Seonpung considers it a mandate from heaven and grows faster than anyone else. One day, at the suggestion of his teacher Jung Jinbong, he moves from the Honggyeong Academy to the Sungyang Academy, a place of great learning. While leaving his home in Jeongyang, he encountered the carriage of a noble and holy fairy in danger of falling off a cliff and saves her, leading them to form a relationship. Upon arriving at the Sungyang Academy, his skills immediately stood out, but a dark plot awaited him. However, through the Needle of Intelligence and the mandate of heaven, Dan Seonpung achieves tremendous things in not only academics but also martial arts, and begins to dig up the sinister plot piece by piece.
